Dec. 12, 2009

Violinist Movses Pogossian (Tchaikovsky Competition winner, youngest-ever First Prize winner of the USSR National Violin Competition, Dilijan Chamber Music Series), cellist Maggie Parkins (Eclipse Quartet, Mojave Trio, and many more), Nick Terry and the Los Angeles Percussion Quartet join Music & Conversations' superb pianist Delores Stevens (Chamber Music Palisades, Martha's Vineyard Chamber Music Society).

Jazz provided by Alan Goldman, with Kristin Korb (bass), and Steve Barnes (drums) to close the evening.

Franz Schubert (Piano Trio No. 1 in Bb D898, Op. 99), Jane Brockman (Departures for piano trio), Steve Reich (Music for Pieces of Wood), John Cage (Third Construction for Four Percussionists) and Alan Goldman.


2008-9 SEASON

Sat. June 6th, 2009

Violinist Alyssa Park (just back from performing the Brahms Violin Concerto in Moscow), Tim Loo (Cello, Jacaranda, Mladi), Susan Greenberg (flute, LA Chamber Orchestra, Chamber Music Palisades) will join Music & Conversations' superb pianist Delores Stevens (Chamber Music Palisades, Martha's Vineyard Chamber Music Society). Bryan Pezzone (Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, LA Philharmonic New Music Group, Free Flight) will provide our improvisation/jazz with percussionist M.B. Gordy (first-call studio percussionist, orchestral and recording musician).

Music by Franz Schubert (Introduction and Variations D802, Op. 160, "Trockne Blumen" for flute and piano), Jane Brockman (Mystique for piano 4-hands), Maurice Ravel (Sonata for Violin and Cello), and Bryan Pezzone.

Violinist Nancy Wu (Associate Concertmaster, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra), John Walz (Principal Cello, Los Angeles Opera), and Josh Ranz (Principal Clarinet, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra) will join Music & Conversations' superb pianist Delores Stevens (Chamber Music Palisades and Martha's Vineyard Chamber Music Society).

Jazz greats Alan Broadbent (piano), Gary Foster (sax) and Putter Smith (bass) will close the evening.

Featuring the West Coast Premiere of Morton Subotnick's 2008 work, Then and Now and Forever. We will also hear J.S. Bach's Cello Suite No. 3 in C Major, and Robert Schumann's Piano Trio No. 1 in D Minor.

Violinist Roger Wilkie (concert master of the Long Beach Symphony), Brian O'Connor (1st call studio french horn and UCLA faculty), and cellist Antonio Lysy (Italy's Siena Chamber Music Festival) will join Music & Conversations' superb pianist Delores Stevens (Chamber Music Palisades and Martha's Vineyard Chamber Music Society).

Music by Alberto Ginastera, Osvaldo Golijov, Jane Brockman, plus the divine Johannes Brahms horn trio.

Alan Goldman will be our jazz artist with Kristin Korb on bass and Steve Barnes, drums--featuring such Goldman classics as "We'd Have a Great Relationship If It Weren't for You".

2007-8 SEASON

In memory of Bebe Barron (June 16, 1925 - April 20, 2008). "First Lady of Electronic Music", who, with her husband, Louis Barron, created the first electronic film score for Forbidden Planet (1956). Read the New York Times obituary.

Violinist Alyssa Park (Jacaranda, Denali String Quartet), cellist Tim Loo (Jacaranda, Denali String Quartet), and flautist Susan Greenberg (Chamber Music Palisades, LA Chamber Orchestra) join Music & Conversations' superb pianist Delores Stevens (Chamber Music Palisades, Martha's Vinyard Chamber Music Society).

Music by Sergei Prokofiev, Zoltan Kodaly, and Ludwig Van Beethoven.

Billy Kerr (woodwinds) and Larry Karush (piano) will complete the evening with virtuoso jazz improvisations.

In memory of Leonard Rosenman (Sept. 7, 1924- Mar. 4, 2008). Illustrious LA film and concert music composer, whose music class at his home helped to inspire our series. Read Jon Burlingame's obituary.

Vioiinist Mark Menzies (Ensemble Sospeso), cellist John Walz (Principal Cellist, Los Angeles Opera Orchestra), and Doug Masek (extraordinary saxophone) join Music & Conversations' superb Delores Stevens (piano).

Music by Dmitri Shostakovich, Astor Piazzolla, and Jane Brockman.

Roger Kellaway (just back from France having won their jazz 'Grammy' of the year) will complete the evening with virtuoso jazz improvisations.

Vioiinist Ida Levin (Music from Marlboro, Boston Chamber Players), violist Evan Wilson (former Principal Viola, LA Philharmonic), and cellist Antonio Lysy (Terra di Siena Chamber Music Festival in Tuscany, Italy) will join Music & Conversations' superb Delores Stevens (piano).

Music by Johannes Brahms and a rare performance of Richard Strauss' marvelous Piano Quartet.

Two-time Grammy Award winner, Alan Broadbent will complete the evening with the great bassist Putter Smith in virtuoso jazz improvisations.


2006-7 Season

Cellist Antonio Lysy, vioiinist Mark Menzies, clarinetist William Powell, join Music & Conversations' superb Delores Stevens (piano). Virtuoso jazz improvisations by Bryan Pezzone.

Music by J.S. Bach, Heinrich Biber, Camille Saint-Saens, Joaquin Turina, Jane Brockman, plus our special guest composer, Mark Robson of PianoSpheres.

Associate Concertmaster of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Bing Wang, and virtuoso percussionist Nick Terry join Music & Conversations' pianist, Delores Stevens and flautist, Susan Greenberg. Jazz pianist Larry Karush will be back to complete the evening.

Music by Bach, Dvorak, Debussy, Brockman and guest composer, Joan Huang.

Pianist Delores Stevens and flutist Susan Greenberg (Chamber Music Palisades and LA Chamber Orchestra) plus Doug Masek (extraordinary saxophone), and Kim Scholes (superb cellist, Los Angeles Opera Orchestra). Jazz great, Mike Lang, will close the program.

Music by J.S. Bach, Charles Koechlin, Ludwig van Beethoven, plus guest composer, Bruce Babcock and Brockman.


2005-6 Season

June 17th, 2006

Pianist Delores Stevens and flutist Susan Greenberg (Chamber Music Palisades and LA Chamber Orchestra) are joined by John Hayhurst (viola, LA Philharmonic), and Armen Ksajikian (associate principal cello, LA Chamber Orchestra). And jazz pianist, Larry Karush, will close the program.

Music by CPE Bach, Rachmaninoff, Dello Joio, plus world premieres by Gernot Wolfgang and Brockman.

December 14th, 2005

Peter Stumpf (principal cellist of the Los Angeles Philharmonic), and Chamber Music Palisades performers Susan Greenberg (flute), Delores Stevens (piano), Jennie Hansen (viola), Irina Voloshina (violin), Jeff Schindler (harpsichord), Sebastian Toettscher (cello).

Music by Beethoven, Bach, Fauré, Brockman, Debussy and Manson. Plus a surprise jazz piece improvised by Bevan Manson and his bassist on suggestions from the audience.
